General Hospital spoilers claim Erika Slezak’s debut as Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Bard — Monica Quartermaine’s (Leslie Charleson) long-lost biological sister — has taken the GH fandom by storm.
In short, the fans are here for Ronnie! Let’s be honest; we’ve all been missing the sparring action between Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and Monica for some time now.
Given that Monica’s last on-screen appearance was nearly two years ago, suffice it to say others haven’t exactly filled that void — until Ronnie, that is.
Showing up with the same sharp wit, gentle demeanor, and surprising take-no-nonsense attitude that we were longing for with Monica’s departure.
It makes sense that her sister would have the same personality ingrained in her from a young age, even though they were separated into foster care at only age five.
So, in a way, we feel like we’ve got a little bit of Monica back, and thus, the fans are not thrilled with the news that Slezak’s stint won’t be a long one.
If the Fans Ain’t Happy, Ain’t Nobody Happy
Obviously, the fan base needs to be kept in a homeostatic space where they are pleased enough with what is happening with current storylines to keep tuning in. We wouldn’t be surprised to find out the ratings saw a boost with Ronnie’s introduction.
Not only is she a little slice of Monica wrapped up in a blue collar bow, but she’s a One Life to Live alum, and the GH fanbase is always ripe for a crossover! Fans like myself are tuning in for the nostalgia that is seeing Viki Lord shine through — am I right?
So, as word is spreading that Ronnie’s role will be cut short and isn’t going to be lasting, the fan fervor to change that is also boiling over.

One fan posted on Facebook that “Whatever the writers do with the story line, I’ve loved hearing her familiar voice, like hearing an old friend.” Another commented, “For those who were One Life to Live Fans, in my head, I’m waiting for Nikki Smith to come out!”
Still, not everyone is in love with her. One fan chimed in saying, “I don’t like that she inherited the Quartermaine mansion. If not Tracy, Michael or Jason should have gotten the house. I remember her as Viki and loved her, but as this character Ronnie, I am not so enthused. Maybe she is not the goody two shoes that she is portraying.”
Interesting insight that may not be off the mark, but if this ends with Tracy exposing Ronnie as a scammer, it’s not going to hit right for the fans who love how much essence of Monica she brings back into the script.
These Fans Can Rally
Remember when Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was killed off nearly one year ago, and the fans united in a massive campaign to prevent her untimely death and termination.
Not having her contract renewed seemed to come as quite the surprise to Monaco, who said she would be speaking out more about what happened behind the scenes but has yet to.
Can we get the same enthusiasm on board for keeping Slezak on the hit sudser so we don’t have to say goodbye to this delicious Monica 2.0 experience? The fans are tired of watching Tracy spar with everyone else.
Having Ronnie stick around would be the icing on the cake, but the short-term status of her contract makes us think she’s going to be on her way out rather soon. What do you think, fans?
