Fire Country's sheriff-focused spinoff gets a major production update with the addition of a new cast member tied to both Mickey (Morena Baccarin) and Sharon (Diane Farr). Season 2 introduced Mickey to the cast of Fire Country, the no-nonsense Sheriff's Sergeant of Edgewater and Sharon's step-sister, making her Bode's (Max Thieriot) aunt. She'll be starring in Sheriff Country, a spinoff currently scheduled to air in the 2025-26 season. The series is expected to follow her investigating criminal activity in the town, while also contending with her father, a former convict, and her estranged daughter.
Now, Deadline has confirmed W. Earl Brown will be guest starring on Fire Country season 3 as Wes, Mickey's father and Sharon's step-father. A reclusive marijuana grower, The Deadwood and Mandalorian star's character will cause plenty of tension with his daughter because of his illegal activities. However, according to a character description from CBS, he still loves his family, including his granddaughter, Skye, but isn't always the most reliable figure. His introduction in the main series will set him up as a series regular in Sheriff Country.
What Brown's New Character Means For Fire Country & Sheriff Country
Another Important Connection Between Both Shows

W. Earl Brown as Dan Dority looking suspicious in Deadwood
Although it's unclear what Brown's Wes is going to be doing in his Fire Country debut, his episode will no doubt set the stage for the upcoming Sheriff Country. Seeds for the spinoff were planted during season 2, when Mickey first arrived in search of a money launderer who tossed $50,000 from above as the convicts were working. The episode offered a strong look at her character, testing the waters to gauge interest in her potentially being a lead on her own series. Luckily, it seems to have impressed, given CBS has already ordered the show.
Wes' inclusion in Fire Country season 3 shows how any spinoffs for the series will be hardwired into the DNA of the original show. It also highlights how much the series is starting to branch out, with rumors of another spinoff coming after guest star Jared Padalecki extended his CBS first-look deal in September. Brown's involvement in Sheriff Country might just be the start of even more casting announcements, not just for the confirmed spinoff, but other potential ways the shared universe can continue to grow.
Our Take On W. Earl Brown Joining The Fire Country Franchise
His Talent Will Carry The Spinoff Far
With Brown joining Fire Country in a critical role for its spinoff, it seems the show is going to start focusing on setting up a larger universe while also telling important stories about Bode and the people around him. The series' popularity makes its current growth unsurprising, and adding Wes as a prominent character for Sheriff Country will only continue to reflect its success. Since more will likely be revealed as his episode draws near, it remains to be seen how his involvement will set up Mickey's new series.
