Chicago Med spoilers and updates reveal Dick Wolf’s first responder series have been a success since the debut of Chicago Fire in 2012. Followed by Chicago P.D. in 2014, and then Chicago Med in 2015, as of 2025, they remain some of NBC’s top shows—here’s what to expect when Chicago Med returns Wednesday nights.
Who’s The Daddy, Who’s Rushing In?
Months have gone by since Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) found out she was expecting. Is the father her ex-boyfriend Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) or her lovesick coworker Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber)?
“No matter who it is,” states showrunner Allen MacDonald, “he will likely respond with mixed feelings,” which isn’t unusual in situations like this.
In the meantime, Ripley has started a new relationship with Sadie Smith (Holly Curran), whom he saved from a well, along with her little daughter (May Lansing).
“He’s diving headfirst into this relationship faster than might be good for him,” MacDonald cautions. How can he tell whether Sadie’s really into him, or it’s simply a case of hero worship?
Distressing News For Caitlin Lenox At The End Of The Season
Devastating news struck Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos), the chief of the emergency department, at the conclusion of the season when she discovered that she has inherited her mother’s Prion Disease.
This is a condition that leads to life-shortening motor-neuron complications; she has now chosen to keep her diagnosis a secret.
Ramos explains, “the narrative the writers are crafting explores what it means to live with the knowledge of a terminal illness that could manifest at any moment.
Lenox, who is on the autism spectrum, aims to assist as many individuals as possible during her remaining time, all while navigating the experience of being alive.”
A Sad Goodbye To One Longtime Actress, But Maybe Not Forever
The season opener is characterized by a bittersweet goodbye while hoping for a joyous return. Marlyne Barrett, known for her portrayal of the esteemed Charge Nurse Maggie Lockwood since the show’s inception, is currently on a leave of absence ‘for personal reasons,’ as stated by MacDonald.
‘Maggie has established such profound connections on the series, and we fully intend to welcome her back when she indicates she’s prepared to return.’
Nurse Maggie has been at the forefront of many compelling stories since the show premiered in 2015. We wish the actress the very best during her personal leave of absence.
The Recurring Return Of Nick Gehlfuss As Dr. Will Halstead
Fans of Nick Gehlfuss’s portrayal of Dr. Will Halstead, who was last seen in Season 8 relocating to Seattle, will be thrilled to hear that he is returning for several episodes.
He makes his comeback to Chicago in the 200th episode, where he takes Dr. Natalie Manning’s son (played by Torrey DeVitto) to a Bears’ game and also visits Gaffney. “This is a very special episode, and by the conclusion, it will feel significant,” MacDonald assures.
Halstead has ties to sister show Chicago PD where younger brother Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) was a former character. Chicago Med premieres on Wednesday, October 1, at 8/7c on NBC and will be available for streaming on Peacock.
