Prince Andrew has decided to voluntarily relinquish his Dukedom following a meeting with His Majesty King Charles.
He still remains eighth in line to the throne, even though you could say it’s more for show now, since he won’t be asked even if the need arises. This is due to the fact that he’s no longer an active member of the Royal Family. So what exactly does it mean for Andrew to lose his Dukedom?
Prince Andrew Relinquishes Dukedom Whilst Denying Virginia Giuffre Accusations
Prince Andrew is thinking about the future of the Monarchy with his latest move, or at least that’s what his recent statement has us believing.
Instead of overshadowing his older brother’s reign with his scandals, he has decided to retreat even further into the shadows.
In a surprising move, the Prince issued a statement to announce that he has voluntarily given up the Dukedom he received from his mother Queen Elizabeth the II.
The statement read: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first… I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
He will continue to be a Prince, though in title only since he no longer holds any official positions. In addition to giving up the Dukedom, he has also relinquished his membership of the Order of the Garter, the oldest and most senior order of chivalry in Britain.
Prince Andrew’s move made many a royal fan to call for the stripping of Prince Harry’s titles as well.
Fans Urge King Charles To Strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of Titles To Restore Crown Dignity
Following Andrew’s statement, fans were quick to point out Harry and Meghan as the potential next-in-line to losing their titles.
“This is what needs to be done with Harry and Megsy. Andrew did not ‘volunteer’ to stop using. The King could force the Sussexes to do the same or it would go to Parliament,” one fan wrote on X, adding, “Given all the nasty things they’ve done to the UK plus merching their titles. I doubt it would be too hard to remove their titles. Of course though Sussexes do love litigation!”
Popular royal commentator Lee Cohen also shared strong opinions on X, “This is called “damage control” for the Monarchy. Anyone else think they must remove the toxic and dangerous Sussexes titles?? After all, the loathsome Sussexes set out deliberately to damage the monarchy.”
Royal expert Victoria Arbiter revealed that stripping a royal of their titles takes time and can easily turn messy. Here’s to hoping Prince Harry and Meghan Markle give theirs up voluntarily.
Is it happening? Me thinks not.
