SHOULD HOPE LOGAN PICK LIAM OR CARTER?
TL;DR: Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) is “torn” between Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor)—who wants to marry her immediately like a rom-com stalker—and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton)—suddenly cancer-free and desperate to reunite. Here’s a radical idea: Maybe Hope could have a storyline that doesn’t involve men fighting over her like she’s the last slice of pizza at Il Giardino? We’re breaking down why this triangle feels like a rerun of a rerun and whether Hope has any personality beyond “which man should I choose?”
Carter’s Pushing Marriage Like It’s Going Out of Style
Carter has decided that the best way to secure his relationship with Hope Logan is to pressure her into marriage. Immediately. Like, right now. Today if possible. Never mind that they’ve only been together for a hot minute, or that Hope just got out of a messy situation with Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), or that she might need, I don’t know, something basic like TIME to figure out what she actually wants.
Nope! Carter’s solution to Liam sniffing around is to lock Hope down with a ring and a ceremony, apparently believing that a marriage certificate is the same thing as emotional security. Sir, that’s not how this works. That’s not how ANY of this works.
The worst part? When Daphne (Murielle Hilaire)—one of the only people in Los Angeles who seems to have functioning brain cells—advises Carter to let Hope go if she’s having doubts, he doubles down on the marriage pressure. Because nothing says “healthy relationship” like forcing your partner into a major life decision when they’re clearly conflicted.
Carter deserves better than to be written as the desperate guy who thinks a wedding will solve all his problems. He was COO of Forrester Creations, after all! He had actual storylines! Now he’s reduced to being known as the “man who really, really wants to marry Hope right this second.”
Liam’s Sudden Cancer-Free Miracle (How Convenient!)
Remember when Liam had cancer and it was this big, emotional storyline? Well, SURPRISE! He’s suddenly all better and ready to win back Hope and reunite their family. The timing is absolutely impeccable. Right when Hope’s relationship with Carter is getting serious, Liam swoops in with his puppy dog eyes and a “but we’re a family” speech.
Here’s the thing about Liam Spencer: He has spent decades ping-ponging between Hope and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) like he’s in an eternal tennis match. He’s broken Hope’s heart more times than anyone can count. He’s chosen Steffy over her repeatedly. But now that he’s cancer-free and Hope’s moved on, suddenly he wants his family back?
The audacity.
And of course, Hope’s conflicted. Because apparently the writers forgot that she spent years being Liam’s second choice. They forgot about all the times he ran back to Steffy. They forgot that Hope finally moved on – at last! – and found someone who actually chose her first.
Does Hope Have a Personality Beyond “Which Man Should I Choose?”
Let’s be brutally honest: When was the last time Hope Logan had a storyline that didn’t revolve around romantic drama? She runs Hope for the Future (supposedly), she’s a mother to Beth (Jordyn Lynn Ariza) and Douglas, she’s involved in the Forrester Creations power struggle, but do the writers ever focus on ANY of that?
Nope! Instead, we get endless scenes of Hope looking conflicted while two men compete for her attention. It’s 2025, people. Can we please give this woman a storyline that doesn’t define her entirely by her romantic relationships?
Remember when Hope was passionate about the message her fashion line was sending? When she had actual opinions about the business? When she was more than just the prize in someone else’s love story? The writers need to remember that too.
Annika Noelle is a talented actress who deserves better material than “appear to be torn between two men” for the 47th time. Give Hope some agency. Let her make a choice and stick with it. Better yet, let her choose herself. Just once.
Why This Triangle Feels So Tired
We’ve seen this before. Multiple times. Liam wants Hope, then he doesn’t, then he does again. Hope moves on, then gets pulled back in. Rinse and repeat. For over a decade.
The Carter relationship was supposed to be something different. A fresh start. A man who actually appreciated Hope and wasn’t constantly comparing her to someone else. But instead of exploring that relationship and letting it develop naturally, the writers immediately threw Liam back into the mix.
It’s lazy storytelling, and fans can smell it from a mile away. Social media is filled with viewers begging the writers to let Hope move on from Liam permanently. To let her have a relationship that isn’t constantly threatened by her ex-husband’s indecision.
But will the writers listen? History suggests probably not.
The Bottom Line
Hope Logan deserves better than being the rope in a tug-of-war between Carter and Liam. She deserves storylines that showcase her intelligence, her business acumen, and her strength. She deserves to make a choice without it being undermined five episodes later.
And viewers deserve to see something NEW. We’ve watched the Liam/Hope/Steffy triangle for years. We don’t need Liam/Hope/Carter to be the same tired pattern with a different third wheel.
Give Hope a personality beyond her love life. Give Carter some dignity. And for the love of all that is holy, let Liam Spencer deal with the consequences of his choices instead of getting another chance every time Hope tries to move on.
The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Watch to see which man Hope chooses—and how long that choice lasts before the triangle starts all over again.
