Iziah opened up about his creative process explaining how he brings his ideas to life. He starts by using his Zayatoon spreadsheet, where he writes down every idea that makes him laugh. If it makes me chuckle, it makes the cut he said. At least I know it made one person laugh. Whenever he finds some free time during his day, he sketches out a few comics. While Iziah has never been committed to just one drawing style, he’s found a level of consistency that he’s comfortable with over the past couple of years. They might not be perfect but they feel like mine and that’s satisfying he shared.

Iziah explained how he chooses which stories or characters to feature in his comics. It’s always about picking whichever character fits the joke, he said. I don’t typically use recurring characters, except for the ones in Zayatoon. One day, I’d love to create a set of characters I can bring back over and over kind of like a Seinfeld-style group of quirky, dysfunctional characters. But for now, it’s just a couple of small characters having silly sometimes surprisingly deep conversations. The joke comes first and the characters follow.
