Bill Hamilton is a lot of things: a successful criminal defense attorney, a father of two, a man with powerful connections. But most importantly, he’s an EX-HUSBAND. Emphasis on the EX. He and Dani Dupree are divorced. He left HER for Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings), his younger paralegal. He MARRIED Hayley. He has moved on.
Except… he hasn’t moved on at all. Not even a little bit. He’s still attempting to control all the bits and pieces of his life. Even his former life.
When Dani and Andre got married in a drunken Vegas ceremony earlier this year, Bill absolutely LOST IT. Never mind that Bill himself is married to someone else. Never mind that he’s the one who destroyed his marriage to Dani by having an affair with Hayley. Never mind that Dani has every right to move on with whomever she wants.
Bill was furious. And when Bill Hamilton gets furious, he doesn’t just sit around feeling his feelings like a normal person. No, he takes ACTION. Toxic, boundary-violating, potentially illegal action.
So what did he do? He hired a private investigator named Keegan to dig up dirt on Andre Richardson.
The Private Investigation: Crossing ALL the Lines
Let’s be very clear about what Bill did here: He paid someone to SPY on his ex-wife’s new husband. He’s not investigating a criminal. He’s not looking into a business partner. He’s literally just trying to find dirt on Andre so he can use it to destroy Dani’s marriage.

She can date the local football team and you don’t have the right to tell her it’s not good form to date the quarterback AND the tight end.
But good old Bill doesn’t see it that way. In his mind, he still has some kind of claim over Dani. And the fact that she moved on—especially with someone from the wealthy Richardson family—is driving him absolutely insane.
What Did the PI Find?
Here’s where things get interesting. Keegan, Bill’s private investigator, actually DID find something suspicious about Andre: For the past year, Andre hasn’t appeared in ANY photographs.
Now, this is particularly strange because Andre is a professional photographer. His entire career revolves around being in the photography world. Yet somehow, for an entire year, he’s managed to avoid being photographed himself. Guess he doesn’t know how to push the little button that changes where the lens is pointing!
This raised red flags for Keegan, who told Bill it was “extremely suspicious.” And honestly? It IS weird. What is Andre hiding? Why would a photographer go out of his way to avoid cameras for a full year?
But here’s the thing: Even if Andre is hiding something, Bill’s motivations for investigating him are still completely inappropriate. He’s not doing this because he’s concerned for his daughters’ safety (though he’ll probably claim that’s the reason). He’s doing this because he’s JEALOUS and POSSESSIVE and can’t stand the thought of Dani being happy with someone else.
The Irony: Bill Hamilton’s Wife Is Trying to Murder Him
Now let’s talk about the absolute DELICIOUS irony of this entire situation. While Bill is obsessing over his ex-wife’s marriage and hiring private investigators to spy on Andre, his CURRENT wife Hayley is literally plotting to MURDER him.
Yes, you read that correctly. Hayley Lawson Hamilton is not just a gold digger—she’s a professional con artist who, along with her cousin Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry), has been running long cons on wealthy men for years. And now she’s decided that the best way to cash in on Bill is to kill him and collect his $10 million life insurance policy.
She already tried once, with a poisoned birthday cupcake. (Not even an entire cake! She tried to take him out with a CUPCAKE!) Unfortunately for her plan (and fortunately for Bill), their daughter Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) took a bite of the cupcake instead. Hayley is now planning another attempt.
So while Bill is running around trying to destroy Dani’s marriage, his own wife is literally trying to end his LIFE. The man is so focused on his ex that he has no idea his current wife is planning his funeral.
You truly cannot make this stuff up. Which is why the writers make it up for us.

The Boundary Issues Are REAL

Why Is Bill Hamilton So Obsessed?
The obvious question here is: Why is Bill SO pressed about Dani moving on? And the answer is pretty clear if you’ve been watching Beyond the Gates: Bill is still in love with Dani.
He left her for Hayley, but that was more about ego and wanting the “newer model” than it was about actual love. Bill is the kind of man who wants what he wants when he wants it, and when he had Dani, he took her for granted. He thought she’d always be there. He thought he could have his cake and eat it too. (Good thing he didn’t decide to have his CUPCAKE and eat it too!)
But Dani didn’t wait around for him. She moved on. She married Andre. And that’s when Bill realized what he’d lost.
Recent episodes have made it very clear that Bill still has feelings for Dani. He’s kissed her TWICE since marrying Hayley. He gets jealous every time he sees her with Andre. And according to actor Timon Kyle Durrett, Bill definitely notices when there are “moments” between him and Dani.
The problem is that Bill can’t have Dani back. She’s moved on. And even though her marriage to Andre has its issues (spoiler alert: Dani doesn’t actually love Andre romantically—she sees him more as a friend), she’s not going to run back to Bill just because he suddenly realized what he lost.
What About Dani Dupree and Andre Richardson’s Marriage?
Here’s the thing that makes this whole situation even messier: Dani and Andre’s marriage isn’t exactly built on solid ground. They got married while drunk in Vegas. They initially planned to annul it. The only reason Dani didn’t file the annulment paperwork immediately was because she was enjoying watching Bill get jealous.
When Dani’s parents, Anita (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis), demanded a family brunch to interrogate the newlyweds, Dani admitted something shocking: She doesn’t love Andre. She likes him. Maybe even loves him as a friend. But she’s not IN love with him.
And Andre? He’s still hung up on nurse Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob), who’s engaged to Derek Baldwin (Ben Gavin)—a man who’s pretending he’s still paralyzed. (Yes, really. Beyond the Gates is serving MESS on all fronts.)
So Dani doesn’t love Andre. Andre is in love with someone else. And Bill is obsessed with destroying their marriage even though it’s probably going to implode on its own eventually.
The Investigation Reveals Something Suspicious
But back to Keegan’s investigation. The fact that Andre hasn’t appeared in any photographs for a year IS genuinely suspicious. What could he be hiding?
Some theories from fans:
Theory #1: Andre was in hiding or witness protection. Maybe Andre witnessed something or was involved in something dangerous, and he had to lay low for a year. That would explain why he avoided cameras.
Theory #2: Andre had a relationship or situation he was hiding. Maybe he was involved with someone else during that year and didn’t want photographic evidence of it.
Theory #3: Andre was dealing with a personal crisis. Maybe he was struggling with mental health issues, addiction, or some other personal problem and didn’t want to be photographed during that time.
Theory #4: Andre is involved in something illegal or shady. This is the most dramatic theory, but it’s a soap opera, so it’s definitely possible. Maybe Andre was involved in criminal activity and needed to stay off the grid.

While Bill is busy investigating Andre, Hayley and Randy are planning their next attempt to kill him. According to spoilers for the October 21 episode, Hayley “enacted a new plan” to kill Bill and make it look like a medical incident.
Randy gave Hayley drugs that, in the right doses, could cause a heart attack. During the October 21 episode, Hayley was seen sneaking the drug into Bill’s cocktail.
So Bill is literally being POISONED by his wife while he runs around hiring PIs to investigate his ex-wife’s husband. The irony is almost too perfect.
Will Bill Hamilton and Dani Dupree Get Back Together?
Here’s what we know is coming: Hayley is going to be exposed eventually. Either Bill is going to survive her murder attempts and discover what she’s been doing, or someone else is going to figure it out and warn him. Either way, Hayley’s days as Mrs. Hamilton are numbered.
And when that happens, where do you think Bill is going to run? Straight to Dani, of course.
According to soap opera insiders and fan speculation, Beyond the Gates is laying the groundwork for a Bill and Dani reunion. Once Hayley’s murder plot is exposed and Bill realizes his wife only married him for his money, he’s going to need comfort. And Dani, despite everything he’s put her through, will probably let him back into her life.
After all, Dani admitted she doesn’t love Andre. And deep down, she’s probably still in love with Bill—even though she shouldn’t be.
So while Bill’s boundary-violating PI investigation is absolutely inappropriate and toxic right now, it might actually lead to him and Dani getting back together eventually. Which… honestly, we have mixed feelings about. Bill needs to do a LOT of work on himself before he deserves Dani back.
The Bottom Line
Bill Hamilton hiring a private investigator to dig up dirt on his ex-wife’s new husband is peak toxic ex-husband behavior. It’s inappropriate. It’s boundary-violating. It’s obsessive. And it’s absolutely fascinating television.
Beyond the Gates is serving up messy drama on all fronts: Bill can’t let go of Dani. Hayley is trying to murder Bill. Dani doesn’t love Andre. Andre is in love with Ashley. And somewhere in the middle of all this chaos, there’s a year-long gap in Andre’s life that nobody can explain.
The PI investigation revealed that Andre hasn’t been photographed in a year—which is definitely suspicious—but Bill’s motivations for digging into Andre’s past are still completely wrong. He’s not doing this to protect his daughters or because he has legitimate concerns. He’s doing this because he’s jealous, possessive, and can’t stand the thought of Dani being with someone else.
And the fact that he’s so obsessed with his ex-wife’s marriage that he doesn’t even notice his CURRENT wife is trying to KILL him? That’s just chef’s kiss perfect soap opera irony.
