Christopher Meloni, a star of “Law & Order: SVU,” has shared insights into his strong friendship with co-star Mariska Hargitay, mentioning that he recently spent time “staying” at her house.
Meloni, aged 64, and Hargitay, aged 61, have been friends for over 20 years, having first met in 1999 when they were both cast in leading roles in the “Law & Order” spinoff. Their on-screen chemistry has led to numerous romance rumors throughout the years.
Nevertheless, Meloni, who portrays Detective Elliot Stabler, and Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson, have consistently maintained that their relationship off-screen is purely that of very close friends. They both discussed this bond during a recent appearance on Amy Poehler’s podcast, “Good Hang.”
Meloni Kidded Around About Mariska’s Home Being Like A Bat Lair
Before Hargitay’s guest spot on the popular podcast, Meloni joined Poehler, 54, via video call to discuss his co-star, mentioning that he was actually at her home at that moment. “Do you know what the irony is? I’m at Mariska’s place,” he confessed when Poehler inquired about his location.
Meloni humorously commented on the secretive nature of the residence, stating: “I can’t show it to you because I haven’t been given permission.
It’s super secret-it’s like a lair. You remember the … Batmobile? It has a fence that lowers, and you drive into a cave, and then the fence rises. I mean, it’s really wild.
Meloni Continued Teasing About The House, But Didn’t Disclose Why He Was There
Oh, you have to place your hand on a sensor, and it only reads your fingerprints,” he joked. Poehler then added playfully, “You know, this is all so satisfying for listeners that you’re at Mariska’s house.”
The reason for Meloni’s stay with his co-star and the duration of it are unknown, as is the specific property he is residing in.
Hargitay owns two homes: a spacious apartment in New York City and a house in the Hamptons, which she and her husband, Peter Hermann, bought in 2010 for $7.34 million.
On the other hand, Meloni’s primary home is a two-story apartment that used to be a townhouse and features wraparound terraces offering expansive views of Manhattan’s skyline.
Meloni And His Wife’s Regular Home Was Featured In Architectural Digest
He lives in a property in the West Village with his wife, Sherman Williams. Meloni recently allowed Architectural Digest to photograph his home, sharing that he and his wife were focused on finding a place with one important feature: a great view.
Records show that they bought several units in the townhouse, which they combined into a large home that spans two levels.
After buying it, he and Williams undertook a long renovation of the two-story house, a task that he noted was significantly complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially since they moved in before the renovations were finished.
Meloni Spoke More About The West Village Property
Meloni noted, “We sort of pushed things forward by staying here. Nobody enjoys having others watch them while they work—it felt uncomfortable—but I think it was beneficial,” he joked.
Nevertheless, that discomfort seems to have been worthwhile, as Meloni shared with the publication that he thinks this place will be their final home. “
We’re really content here. I’m pleased this is the last home we’ll ever relocate to,” he stated. If he ever needs a getaway from the city, though, it seems he is always welcome at Hargitay’s.
Hargitay Previously Lived In A Townhouse On The Upper West Side
Hargitay once lived in a spacious townhouse on the Upper West Side, which she sold for $8.75 million in 2019 after listing it for $10.75 million the previous year. The actress and her husband took a significant loss, having purchased it for $10.7 million in 2012.
Hargitay has discussed the significance of her move from Los Angeles to New York, revealing that a psychic had foreseen it.
On Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Hargitay, daughter of Jayne Mansfield, recounted her unusual psychic experience and noted that the beginning of her acting career was more challenging than many think. “My 20s were really hard,” she shared. “I had a few guest star roles, but then it dried up for me.”
Hargitay Had Focused On Comedy, And Then A Friend Sent Her To A Psychic
At that point, Hargitay was attempting to establish a comedy career, but as those opportunities dwindled, a friend in New York suggested she consult a psychic for guidance on her future.
She revealed, “I used to visit New York twice a year.; at 34, I went there, and a friend said, ‘Oh, Mariska, you must see this psychic on Long Island.’ I had no clue where Long Island was; Hargitay admitted she was doubtful about the meeting, especially since her mother’s fame often led to stereotypes.
‘So I drove to this guy’s house for a reading. With my mom being famous, I thought, ‘You’ll probably just Google me and make up some nonsense,’ she shared.
The Psychic Told Her She’d Be Famous For Her Face
Hargitay recalls the psychic turning to her and saying, “You see that face? You’re going to be famous for that serious face.” She quickly disagreed, insisting she aimed to be a comedian; but he insisted, “I don’t care what you think-that face will make you famous.”
Then, the psychic dropped another surprise, saying she’d move to New York; “I said, ‘Uh, no,’” she admitted. “I live in L.A., this is my place. I have my roommates, my house—what will I do with my house?” Six months later, I got ‘SVU.’ Hargitay debuted as Detective Benson in 1992 and has been in the role ever since, a steady presence among a rotating cast, alongside her longest-running co-star, Ice-T.
