Prince Andrew might believe that a large media institution shares the blame for his ongoing troubles. The allegations arrived this weekend, after the news that Andrew and Fergie might use the Queen’s pups as leverage to stay on in the Royal Lodge. Read on for more details.
The BBC Interview Was A Mistake
According to a new video, the Duke of York realizes that his infamous 2019 Newsnight interview was a mistake. Allegedly, he believes that the way the broadcaster’s production presented the editing reflected the outlet’s personal ideas.

Royal commentator Neil Sean discussed that perspective on his Daily News Headlines vlog on Sunday. In it, He cited an “excellent source,” who claims that Andrew now wants the raw footage from his sit down with Emily Maitlis. Remember, the interview covered his association with Jeffrey Epstein and allegations by Virginia Giuffre.
A Bad Edit For The Prince?
Apparently, Prince Andrew feels that the final edit left out some important context. Of course, that could have left the public with a distorted picture. Consequently, Andrew allegedly made a formal request for the complete footage.
Reinforcing the claim, Sean urged a look at the BBC’s history. For instance, he referred to the Martin Bashir scandal that involved Princess Diana. Describing “The lying, the cheating, and the skulduggery,” Sean argued that the corporation never fully accounted for its actions.
Because of that, the royal commentator believes that the incident set a precedent that could actually be vital in Andrew’s current situation. “I believe he ruined Princess Diana’s life through the lies and deceit,” Sean said, highlighting that the BBC could be a repeat offender.
A Planned Production
Next, Sean took a look at the Newsnight interview itself. He described a meticulously planned operation led by producer Sam McAlister. Meanwhile, he portrayed presenter Emily Maitlis as “just the blonde figurehead that nodded, [and] wore lots of mascara.”
As Sean has been in interviews before, he knows the way things happen. So, he noted that the Newsnight interview seemed to be “very very tight,” almost like a rehearsed performance designed for maximum impact.
Of course, in hindsight, it’s thought that Andrew was “an absolute nutter for doing it.” Apparently, he didn’t get a copy to go through channels of approval. And, he seemed to misjudge the whole thing because apparently, he even told the late Queen the encounter went “very well.” Well, that came back to haunt the Queen’s son.
Is It Too Late?
The main issue though, might be that it’s been a long time, and even if the footage arrives, it might not reverse public opinion. Sean mused, “But don’t you think you’ve left this bit a little bit late in the can?”
There’s also allegedly some reluctance by the BBC to release the unedited footage. And, as far as Sean’s concerned, they have reason to be. After all, there have been controversies over the years from politicians to the Huw Edwards affair.
While not absolving Andrew of his alleged associations, the discussion by Neil Sean seemed to point to Andrew being outmatched. For now, the original film is with the production team, and it seems that Andrew’s hope for redemption lies in a review of his own performance.
Royal Family Fans Respond
In the comments section, some people agreed that the BBC could be a bit dodgy. Meanwhile, others thought that Andrew acted like an arrogant man. One person opined, “I agree Diana was used. No one should trust the BBC.”
