The royal drama this week keeps writing themselves. Now we’re hearing that the King went ballistic over the simple idea to have a library addition at a castle with 775 rooms. Apparently, this is a real issue and we should drop everything to get to the root of the matter.
Queen Camilla Wants Buckingham Palace’s Ongoing Renovation To Feature A Library Addition
If you know anything about Queen Camilla, you’d know that she’s a big literacy advocate. It’s something she’s devoted countless hours and energy on, and one of the main points of her advocacy is fostering the love of reading in young people.
As Buckingham Palace undergoes a renovation, she apparently saw this as a chance to take her advocacy even further by campaigning to have a library built at one of the world’s most impressive castles.
Few know this, but despite having over 700 rooms, the Buckingham Palace actually does not boast a library. Yes, once-upon-a-time, it used to have one. However, it hasn’t done so since King George IV donated the King’s Library to the British Museum in the early 19th century.
Camilla is vocal about bringing back the good old days of Buckingham Palace books. She’s hoping that the budget can be squeezed into the $499 million mapped out for the renovation. However, this request reportedly irritates Charles to no end.
“Books and reading have always been central to Camilla’s life, and she thinks it’s ridiculous that the monarch’s residence doesn’t include a library,” a source told Radar Online.
“She’s made it clear to Charles that this is her single, most important request. But he finds it frustrating. The size and expense of the renovation are already weighing heavily on him, and her demand for an additional room drives him to distraction.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla Basically Divorced: “Largely Separate Lives”
On September 12, a Palace source reportedly told Radar Online that the King and his Queen are “divorced in everything but name” as they lead “largely separate lives” to “keep up with appearances.”
“They are putting on a united front in public, especially because Charles is ill, but behind the scenes it’s a very different picture,” the source claimed.
Regardless of their unconventional marriage, the source promises that Camilla remains committed in her care of the King in his health struggles.
“They remain committed in their own way, but it’s not the kind of marriage most people would recognize,” the insider said. “Charles is absorbed in his health and responsibilities, while Camilla prioritizes her time at Ray Mill. At this point, it’s the crown that binds them – not the relationship itself.”
