Hallmark Channel When Calls The Heart spoilers and updates reveal Brooke Shields will reprise her role as Charlotte Thornton, the late Jack Thornton’s (Daniel Lissing) mother.
As the former mother in law of Elizabeth Thornton, (Erin Krakow) she’s also little Jack Thornton’s (Hyland Goodrich) paternal grandmother.
Brooke Reprises Her Original Role Ten Years Since She Left The Show
A decade after her debut in 2016, Brooke Shields is set to return to Hope Valley. PEOPLE has confirmed that the actress will reprise her role as Charlotte in the 13th season of Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart. At 60, Shields will guest star in three episodes when the series returns in 2026.
When Charlotte first arrived in Hope Valley, she made a bold entrance on horseback to check on her son, Jack, ensuring his happiness. During that visit, she also met Elizabeth, who would later become Jack’s wife and the mother of his child.
Charlotte And Elizabeth Have Urgent Issues To Tackle
However, since Jack’s death in the season 5 finale, Elizabeth is now in a serious relationship with Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry). It remains to be seen how Elizabeth’s former mother-in-law will interact with her new partner, but Charlotte and Elizabeth have more urgent issues to tackle.
At the end of season 12, Elizabeth, Nathan, Nathan’s niece and adoptive daughter Allie Grant (Jaeda Lily Miller), and Little Jack, traveled to Cape Fullerton to stay at Charlotte’s boarding house. This move was to be nearer to an insulin lab for Little Jack, who has diabetes.
As season 13 starts, viewers will witness Charlotte assisting Little Jack in recalling memories of his father, and she will need to adapt to the ever-changing times in Hope Valley.
The Show Having Progressed To 1922 Was A Challenge For Brooke
“Adapting to 1922 has been quite challenging for me due to the drastic change,” Shields shares with PEOPLE. “However, it’s fascinating to witness Charlotte’s evolution, we’re paving the way for her modernization.”
One notable change for Charlotte is spending less time on horseback; “She no longer rides horses, which is a bit disappointing because I enjoyed that,” Shields chuckles.
“For years, I’ve been eager to bring Brooke back on When Calls the Heart,” Krakow, who also serves as an executive producer for the show, tells PEOPLE. “I’m thrilled that we managed to coordinate the timing. Working with her is a dream.”
