Ahead of the weekend, Todd Chrisley shared how he met a released prisoner. At the time, he mentioned Melvin Williams. However, a quick search revealed there are at least five people of that name serving time in prisons in the USA. This week, it was confirmed which Melvin now enjoys his freedom.

The Prisoner Release

Chrisley Knows Best fans might have anticipated the release to be former Boyle County Sheriff Deputy, Tanner Abbott. That’s because in March this year, Savannah Chrisley shouted out about Blue Lives Matter, and claimed Tanner was unjustly jailed for throwing “a single punch.”

However, it wasn’t Tanner. Instead it was another law enforcement officer that Todd Chrisley met on the day of his prison release last week. When he shared about it, Todd wrote on Instagram in part:

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison…Today is a great day because I was able to pick up my friend Melvin Williams from prison…with the great help of Rick Stover the head of FSA with the Bureau of prisons , Regional Director John Bartlett, Director William Marshall and @realdonaldtrump @potus… Welcome home my friend.

Confirmed: Melvin Is A Former NOPD Officer

It was Fox 8 Live that confirmed the Melvin Williams who was met by Todd Chrisley was a former New Orleans Police Department officer. On September 30, the outlet confirmed why he was jailed, citing an incident that happened in 2005.

According to the outlet, “Raymond Robair was a Treme handyman, beaten so badly by the NOPD’s Williams with a metal baton in 2005, he suffered fractured ribs, a ruptured spleen and massive internal bleeding. He died at Charity Hospital.”

Convicted, he and his partner also faced allegations of telling lies about Robair, claiming he’d taken a drug overdose. In 2011, “Williams received a sentence just shy of 22 years in federal prison.”

Reactions By The Public

When Todd shared his post, there was a lot of rejoicing. One follower wrote, “This is your purpose Todd! Congrats to Melvin.” And, many positive comments followed. His son, Chase Chrisley said, “Proud of you dad!!! LETS GO BIG MELVIN!!”

However, sentiments differed away from those Chrisley Knows Best fans who follow Todd. On Fox 8’s Instagram post, a follower scathingly wrote:

before we had body cam to prove what really happened on the street, he and his partner jacked people up on bs charges every day…people lived in dread fear of Flattop.
