General Hospital spoilers and updates tease that Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) will make a big decision in the upcoming week. Considering his bonding to Tracy and Ned Quartermaine, (Jane Elliot, Wally Kurth) might he decide to take the Quartermaine name?
Monica Quartermaine’s Memorial And The Family Coming Together Impressed Gio
Viewers will recall that Monica Quartermaine’s (Leslie Charleson) and the family coming together impressed Gio-so much so, in fact, he told Tracy he was proud to be her great grandson!
That was a huge step for Gio, who barely acknowledges his birth parents, angry at Brook Lynn Quartermaine Chase (Amanda Setton) and the Cerullo side for never telling him the truth.
Also at the reception, Gio talked to his grandfather Ned, about music, and acknowledged he must get his music from him. Ned promised to meet up-maybe he’ll buy Gio a new violin to make up for the one he smashed up.
Baby Steps, But It’s A Good Sign
Baby steps, to be sure, as Brook Lynn told Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) but it’s a start. And it’s a very good sign that they saw Gio talking to his great grandma and his grandpa Quartermaine.
At least he’s acknowledging his Quartermaine relatives as his relatives, and accepting he’s part of the family-if not accepting a relationship with his parents just yet.
Although he hasn’t quite accepted Dante, he kept Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) in his family circle before he accepted Tracy and Ned; and Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) isn’t a problem.
He’s already heard the story about Michael going by Quartermaine for a while but then returning to Corinthos when he was done being mad at Sonny.
Gio’s Decision Is Partly Influenced By Family Hatred Of Drew Cain
Gio’s kind of on the outside looking in where Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) is concerned, but he knows all about how Drew stealing Michael’s wife (it took two, but oh well!)
He also knows from talking to Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) how Drew contributed to her parents’ breakup and blackmailed Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr).
For Gio, that’s enough to make up his mind-partly influenced by family and others’ hatred of Drew; he decides to spite the corrupt cutthroat congressman and take the family name.
Gio’s taking the Quartermaine name is an act of respect and love towards Ned, Tracy, and even towards his birth mother Brook Lynn, who, like Ned, had taken the Quartermaine name.
“Lord” Larry Ashton (Oliver Muirhead) was a lot like Drew, so Gio hears-so since Drew had to give up the family name, Gio takes it!
