Can King Charles change the order of succession? That’s what a lot of royal fans can’t help but wonder. In fact, there’s heavy speculation suggesting that the King of England may choose to have his sister, Princess Anne, rule the throne next.
Can King Charles Change The Order Of Succession?
That’s mostly because his son, Prince William, looks like he clearly doesn’t care about being the next ruler of the monarchy. Not only that, but he looks like he doesn’t seem interested in the job whatsoever, either.
But whether or not that will actually happen, remains to be seen.
Of course, many royal fans and critics alike from both sides of the aisle certainly did have a lot to say about the matter on social media.
Some even commented with, “Charles himself couldn’t do it, as this isn’t like an abdication. A law would have to be done to do it, which would require an act of parliament. And unless somebody has done something really, really bad, that’s not going to happen.”
“And even then, it would just go down to the next person in line, not somebody else. E.g., if William was removed from the line of succession, it would just go to George, then Charlotte, then Louis, and etc.”

Another critic of the royal family wrote, “Let’s say that an heir is able to remove their entire family from the line of succession…somehow. It’ll still go to the next person after their family in the line.”
“Unless Parliament passes something like the Act of Settlement 1701, but that was for religious reasons and I don’t see something similar flying today.”
And then there was this comment as well: “The order of succession was changed for future births with the Succession to the Crown Act 2013, changing it from male-preference primogeniture, to absolute primogeniture. However, in this case it was decided to not impact the order of succession for existing heirs.”
“So yes, things can change, but it needs to be through the government. There’s no strict rule that it cannot affect existing heirs.”
